Advantage™ Plus polymer

VA/Butyl Maleate/Isobornyl Acrylate Copolymer

Advantage™ Plus polymer is a terpolymer of vinyl acetate, mono-n-butyl maleate and isobornyl acrylate. In hair care, Advantage Plus polymer is positioned for hair spray applications where it delivers stiff, hard-holding performance. Styling effects are long-lasting even in a high humidity environment. Depending on the type of neutralizer, Advantage Plus polymer can be used to formulate aerosol hairsprays containing 50 percent or more hydrocarbons. In sun care applications, incorporating Advantage Plus polymer into anhydrous spray formulations offers enhanced performance and feel. This self-adapting polymer helps boost formula SPF and improves water resistance, while providing a low-shine finish on the skin. Study results show that Advantage Plus polymer boosts initial SPF and improves water-resistant benefits for higher SPF retention. Because of its self-adapting character, which allows the polymer to reorient itself, Advantage Plus polymer provides water resistance.

Advantage™ defoamers

Advantage™ defoamers are highly efficient, hydrocarbon oil-based antifoaming agents designed for use in ready-to-use construction materials as a foam control agent. Advantage defoamers are designed to be emulsifiable with persistency so they can be used over a broad number of applications. Advantage defoamers are especially effective for use in building applications such as synthetic plasters, tile adhesives and joint compounds. Advantage defoamers are typicallly effective at dosage levels between 0.1-1.0 percent by weight on total formulation. A liquid product, Advantage defoamers can be easily dispersed. The addition of Advantage defoamers results in low foaming solutions or pastes with low entrained-air content.

Agrimax™ C-100, 200, 300, 400 and 600 polymer series

Agrimax C 100 series Agrimax™ C 100 hydroxyethylcellulose is a free-flowing powder which provides rheological control and lubricity properties. It is easily dissolved in cold or hot water, resulting in clear solutions. Agrimax C 100 is soluble in glycerol, but insoluble in many organic solvents. It also has good solubility in hydro-alcohol systems with up to 60 percent alcohol. Agrimax C 200 series Agrimax C 200 series The Agrimax™ C 200 Series comprises four hydroxypropyl cellulose grades – with varying molecular weights and rheology properties. Free flowing powders, they are soluble in many organic solvents and in water below 38°C, but insoluble in water above 45°C. The Agrimax C 200 grades are highly surface active with low surface and interfacial tensions of solutions. They are thermoplastic, extrudable and film-forming. Agrimax C 300 series Agrimax™ C 300 series methyl cellulose ethers are free-flowing powders that are soluble in cold water. Differentiated by their viscosity, they have thickening, stabilization and water-retention properties. They are film-forming and exhibit thermo-gelling behavior. Each grade is surface active with low surface and interfacial tensions of solutions. Agrimax™ GR polymers

Agrimax™ GR 100 is used to raise viscosity in water-based systems and modify viscosity in spray drift applications. Agrimax GR 100 is comprised of natural, water-soluble polysaccharides.  Agrimax GR 200, a hydroxypropyl guar, is a cold-water-soluble polysaccharide derivative that is easily dispersed and provides high viscosity at low concentrations. Both grades can be used in suspended concentrates, suspo-emulsions, soluble powders, wettable powders and water-dispersible granules. They are recommended for use in adjuvants, in seed coatings and in emulsion stabilization.    

Agrimer™ AT and ATF polymers

Agrimer™ AT and ATF polymers absorb and swell with water / solvent, but are insoluble in aqueous and organic media. Crosslinked, Agrimer AT and ATF polymers have high capillary hydration capacity, which provide for high-efficiency disintegration in tablets and granules.  Agrimer ATF polymer is a finer particle size version of Agrimer AT polymer. Stable under acidic and alkaline conditions, it is a premium disintegrant for WDG and tablets, and an excellent dry binder in seed coatings.

Antara™ (Polectron) 430 polymer is a white, thermoplastic, 38-41 percent solids, latex produced as a graft, emulsion copolymer of 30 percent polyvinylpyrrolidone and 70 percent styrene in the presence of an anionic surfactant. The size distribution of the emulsion is such that 90 percent of the particles are less than 0.5 micron with a maximum 25°C viscosity of 750cps at pH 2.0-5.0. Antara (Polectron) 430 polymer is a highly effective opacifier. With a glass transition temperature of approximately 100°C, it forms transparent, thermoplastic films that readily adhere to glass, plastics and metals. Antara (Polectron) 430 polymer is thermally and mechanically stable in the presence of a variety of ionic compounds. Polectron 430 polymer is sold as Antara 430 polymer in Europe and Asia Pacific.

AquaSolve™ hypromellose acetate succinate (hydroxypropylmethylcellulose acetate succinate or HPMCAS)

AquaSolve™ HPMCAS for pharmaceutical applications is a cellulosic polymer with four substituents randomly substituted on the available hydroxyl groups with the following mass content: methoxyl, 12–18 wt%; hydroxypropoxy, 4–23 wt%; acetyl, 2–16 wt% and succinoyl, 4–28 wt%. It is white to off-white in color and has a faint acetic acid-like odor and a barely detectable taste.  AquaSolve HPMCAS is available in several grades for pharmaceutical applications varying in extent of substitution of acetyl and succinoyl groups, and in two particle sizes (fine or granular). AquaSolve HPMCAS is used as a polymeric carrier in solid dispersions for solubility enhancement of poorly soluble drugs. The amphiphilic nature, high glass transition temperature (Tg) and low viscosity in various solvents of this polymer are some of the unique properties that make it ideal for use in spray-dried dispersion formulations. In oral pharmaceutical formulations, AquaSolve HPMCAS is commonly used as an enteric film coating for tablets, capsules or granules. For aqueous film-coating purposes, a dispersion of HPMCAS fine powder and a plasticizer (such as triethyl citrate) in water is commonly used. Organic solvents are also vehicles for applying this polymer as a film coating. HPMCAS can form films without the addition of water or solvents. Other pharmaceutical applications include its use alone or in combination with other soluble or insoluble binders in the preparation of granules with sustained drug-release properties, where the release rate is pH-dependent.

Aquaflow™ XLS nonionic synthetic associative thickeners

Aquaflow™ XLS nonionic synthetic associative thickeners (NSATs) represent breakthrough, second-generation liquid rheology modifiers for water-based paints and coatings. XLS stands for "eXceptional Leveling and Sag resistance" and the breakthrough is hard-to-achieve balance of sag-resistance with the superior leveling of characteristic NSAT thickeners. In all waterborne latex paints, Aquaflow XLS offers painters a virtually drip-free application. Applied hiding is often enhanced due to the superior flow and leveling that helps to eliminate brush marks. Viscosity retention on tinting is typically improved with XLS in paints that are post-tinted with universal colorant systems. Tinted paint viscosity is more predictable and the superior sag resistance is retained, even after deep tinting.

Aquaflow™ nonionic synthetic associative thickeners

Aquaflow™ nonionic synthetic associative thickeners are efficient thickeners for high-performance waterborne paints and coatings. These easy-to-handle liquids build rheology in paints and coatings through self-association and interaction with other ingredients.  Aquaflow rheology modifiers are based on hydrophobically-modified polyacetal-polyether (HM-PAPE) chemistry and are designed to function as a drop-in replacement for urethane-type (HEUR) thickeners. They also work well in conjunction with hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC/HMHEC) and other nonionic cellulose ethers.

Since its commercial introduction in the United States in 1946, Aqualon™ (Blanose, Bondwell) sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) has found use in an ever-increasing number of applications. The many important functions provided by this polymer make it a preferred thickener, suspending aid, stabilizer, binder and film-former in a growing variety of applications. The wide range of viscosity and substitution types available for the highly purified grades and the less highly purified technical grades of CMC continues to expand the uses for this product. Many of applications do not require the use of the highly purified grade, and a technical grade of CMC is available for certain applications. Ashland's chemists and engineers continue to tailor-make various grades and types to meet the needs of specific customers and industries requiring water-soluble polymers. Aqualon (Blanose, Bondwell) sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) is utilized in multiple markets including adhesives and sealants, advanced ceramics, building and construction, ceramics, pottery and porcelain, commercial and institutional, housewares and consumer, medical, metal castings and foundry, mining and extraction, pulp and paper, textiles and tobacco. Ashland provides cellulose gum under the trade names Aqualon, Blanose and Bondwell depending on the region in which we serve you.

Aqualon™ aqueous polymers

Add Aqualon aqueous binders for effective anode slurry preparation and graphite binding Aqualon carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC) products perform as both aqueous binders and rheology modifiers. These CMC products are typically used in conjunction with styrene butadiene (SB) latex to improve the binding strength of the active graphite on the copper collector. SB alone cannot generate slurry stability for the graphite powder. The CMCs improve the rheology characteristics and allow sufficient coating of the copper foil at high speeds, ensuring the lithium ion cells survive multiple discharge cycles. In the manufacturing process, the greater-than-99.5 percent purity Aqualon CMCs ensure excellent dispersion of graphite particles; homogeneous distribution of the binder, and high coating quality. In addition, they generate defect-free electrodes from a water-based slurry. In the cell, the CMCs are compatible with both natural and synthetic graphite and standard latex co-binders. In-cell, the electrochemistry performance ensures effective electrolyte penetration, high charge capacity, coulombic efficiency and good cycle performance with high capacity retention. Ashland Specialty Ingredients offers three Aqualon CMC grades for effective anode slurry preparation. Aqualon Aqu D-5283 CMC offers outstanding slurry stability for stable processing and easy dissolution in water for fast processing. Aqualon Aqu D-5139 CMC offers good slurry rheology for stable processing, and both grades enhance adhesion of graphite to the anode for longer cell life. The electrochemical characteristics of Aqualon Aqu D-5284 CMC are optimized for use with Mesophase Artificial Graphite (MAG) in the cell.

Aqualon™ cellulose gum

Aqualon™ cellulose gum, or sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), is widely used as an economical thickener and stabilizer in foods and beverages. Besides modifying the behavior of water, cellulose gum is useful in suspending solids and modifying the flow and texture. Aqualon cellulose gum has the ability to form strong, oil-resistant films. In beverage concentrates (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and powdered drink mixes, cellulose gum adds pleasant, clean mouthfeel. The anionic nature of CMC allows it to interact with the positive charges found on protein in acidic conditions, thus making it an excellent stabilizer for low-pH dairy beverages. CMC is also used in ice cream to control meltdown, add texture and protect against heat shock. Aqualon™ sodium carboxymethylcellulose

Aqualon™ sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) is made by reacting sodium monochloroacetate with alkalicellulose under rigidly controlled conditions. The resultant anionic polymer is purified and dried. Purified CMC for personal care and cosmetic applications is typically sold at 99.5 percent minimum purity. In addition to thickening aqueous systems, CMC is used in personal care products for water binding, syneresis control and its ability to suspend pigments and active ingredients in solution. Aquarius™ Control film coating systems

The Aquarius Control film coating systems consist of two types of coatings. Aquarius Control ENA film coating systems are delayed-release (enteric) coatings that are designed to protect active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) that degrade in gastric fluid, or to prevent the release of APIs that may irritate the gastric mucosa. Aquarius Control SRX film coating systems are sustained-release coatings for APIs that are most effective when released over time. These film coating systems have predictable and controllable release retardation; are custom-formulated based on drug solubility and desired release profile; do not require a coalescence step and have stable dissolution profiles over a wide pH range. Aquarius Control film coating systems are durable, coherent coatings, in which film formation occurs via solvent evaporation – not latex coalescence – and film robustness is related to the use of a high-molecular weight polymer. Aquarius Control SRX film coating systems are solvent-dispersible ethylcellulose (EC) coatings for multiparticulates, potentially modified with hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC) as a pore former. They are available in several different porosities that can be matched to drug solubility and/or desired release profile. A key benefit of Aquarius Control SRX film coating systems is that they do not require curing after coating. The release profiles of tablets enteric coated with Aquarius Control ENA film coating systems are remarkably stable over periods of up to 12 months, even under accelerated stability testing.

To maximize the efficiency of the coating application process, high-solids loadings are desirable. By reducing the coating time using high-solids formulations, productivity is increased and overall manufacturing costs are reduced. Aquarius Preferred film coating systems are state-of-the-art immediate-release coatings, which have been scientifically formulated with careful polymer selection. High-solids cellulosic or high-solids PVP/VA formulations improve film adhesion to all substrates, especially those that offer challenges in aqueous film coating. When compared to competitive offerings, Aquarius film coating systems have proven to offer smoother, more consistent coverage even at the highest solids levels. Clear advantages in film coating process productivity are seen with high-solids suspensions. Aquasorb™ cellulose gum

Aquasorb™ cellulose gum, or sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), is a high-purity, powdered super-absorbent that offers increased bake stability, extended shelf life, freeze/thaw stability and water binding. Besides modifying the behavior of water, cellulose gum is useful in suspending solids and modifying the flow and texture. In beverages, cellulose gum adds a pleasant, clean mouthfeel. Ashland™ carbomers

Ashland carbomers are cross-linked polyacrylic polymers of high molecular weight. They are anionic in nature and acidic in their unneutralized state and have to be neutralized with an appropriate base to achieve their thickening ability. Ashland carbomers are extremely efficient thickeners and powerful stabilizers at low concentrations in water and aqueous ethanol. Ashland carbomers exhibit pseudoplastic rheological behavior. They have high yield value and demonstrate a short texture, making them valuable as emulsion stabilizers, gel formers and suspending agents. Typical use levels are 0.2 percent to 1.0 percent. Ashland carbomers are effective over a wide pH range of 5 to 10. Ashland carbomers are hydrophilic and proper care is needed to successfully disperse and wet out the polymer. BDO - 1, 4 Butanediol

Butanediol intermediate is a versatile diol precursor to numerous derivatives such as esters, carbamates, polyesters and urethanes. It is used mainly as a co-monomer in classical diol-condensation reactions with terephthalic acid to produce polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), with diisocyanates to produce polyurethanes and with diacids to yield polyesters with biodegradability characteristics. Butanediol intermediate’s reactive sites are its hydroxyl groups, which undergo all the typical reactions of alcohols. In addition to the condensation reactions noted above, it can be converted to simple esters and halides, dehydrated to tetrahydrofuran (THF) and dehydrogenated to gamma-butyrolactone. BLO™ gamma butyrolactone

BLO butyrolactone solvent, also known as gamma-Butyrolactone, is a polar solvent for ionic substrates and functions as an acid donor in aqueous media at elevated temperatures. Although BLO solvent is stable under a wide range of conditions, at elevated temperatures and in the presence of appropriate reagents, it serves as an intermediate in a variety of useful syntheses such as: Precursor to 2-pyrrolidone and the extensive family of alkyl pyrrolidones produced from ammonia and primary amines. Reacting with phenols to yield phenoxybutyric acid derivatives with applications in pharmaceuticals and as photographic coupling agents.

Benecel™ methylcellulose and hydroxypropylmethylcellulose

Benecel™ MC and HPMC perform many functions in processed foods, depending on type, grade, use level and conditions. Among these functions are thermal gelation, film formation, thickening, binding and water retention. The polymeric structure of these products, which is different from other cellulosics, improves cohesion, texture and mouthfeel. Small amounts of Benecel MC and HPMC significantly enhance emulsion stability as well. This is particularly useful in stabilizing whipped toppings and desserts. These products offer food formulators a unique functional property – reversible thermal gelation, or the ability to gel with water upon heating, then return to the original viscosity upon cooling. Depending on the substitution, and formulation parameters, gelation occurs at 50-80 °C (120-180 °F), forming an oil-insoluble gel or film. In deep-fat frying, Benecel MC or HPMC can form a barrier that will hold out oil while retaining moisture. The result is a fried food that’s moist yet lower in fat. Extruded fried products also maintain their shape. In fillings, thermal gelation of Benecel MC and HPMC inhibits moisture migration into pie crusts and prevents boil-out while heating fruit bars and pocket-dough products. This property also improves cling in sauces and batters.

Benecel™ methylcellulose and hypromellose

Benecel™ methylcellulose and hypromellose (hydroxypropyl-methylcellulose or HPMC) are versatile excipients with a variety of applications. High-viscosity grades are widely used in hydrophilic matrix controlled-release systems. Low-viscosity grades are used as the primary film former in tablet coatings and vegetarian capsule formulations, and are a common wet-granulation tablet binder. Hypromellose is used as a solid dispersions solubilizer in spray-dried or melt-extruded formulations. Bondwell™ aqueous polymers

Bondwell aqueous binder ensures effective anode slurry preparation and graphite binding Like the Aqualon™ products, the Bondwell BVH8 carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC) aqueous binder also acts as a rheology modifier for good slurry stability. It is typically used in conjunction with styrene butadiene (SB) latex to improve the binding strength of the active graphite on the copper collector. SB alone cannot generate slurry stability for the graphite powder. Bondwell BVH8 CMC improves the rheology characteristics and allows sufficient coating of the copper foil at high speeds, ensuring the lithium ion cells survive multiple discharge cycles. While Bondwell BVH8 CMC has good adhesion strength of synthetic graphite to the anode, it is optimized for even better adhesion strength of natural graphite to the anode for longer cell life. In process, Bondwell BVH8 CMC also ensures excellent dispersion of graphite particles; homogeneous distribution of the binder, and high coating quality. In addition, it generates defect-free electrodes from a water-based slurry. In-cell, the electrochemical characteristics are optimized for use with natural graphite, such as that sourced from China. The electrochemistry performance ensures effective electrolyte penetration, and good cycle performance with high capacity retention.

Captivates™ encapsulates

The biodegradable Captivates encapsulates range includes standard and customizable microencapsulation products either by employing Complex Coacervation or JetCutter™ processes.  Microencapsulated products are small particles that contain an active ingredient or core material surrounded by a shell or coating. Particle diameters generally range from a few microns to a few millimeters. Microencapsulated products may have different types of structures. These may be simple droplets of liquid core material surrounded by a spherical shell, or particles containing small droplets of core material dispersed in a continuous polymer shell matrix. Typical applications for Captivates include aesthetic benefits and sensorial benefits, such as texture, as well as functional benefits such as delivery, protection, isolation, color change, fragrance or flavor release. Various trigger mechanisms to release the encapsulated material such as shear, pH, dilution, ion concentration or temperature are available. The Captivates HC encapsulates series is made up of a complex coacervate based on naturally derived polymers. It typically contains a variety of lipophilic cosmetic ingredients but can also be used to isolate and protect ingredients including water-soluble ingredients. Captivates HC encapsulate variables include: Wall thickness: thin to thick walls. Capsule size: 10 to 2,000 microns. Color: range of pigments and dyes. Core materials: blends of natural oils, synthetic oils and many oil-soluble actives. Density: matched to meet the requirements of the final formulation. . The Captivates GL encapsulates series is gelled polymers made through JetCutter technology, which form a hydrogel matrix that can trap insoluble powders and oil. Typical polymer compositions are alginate, agar, carrageenan or chitosan, but the process can also form wax beads with a very uniform size distribution. Captivates GL encapsulate variables include: Standard colors. Size: from 250 to 3,000 microns depending on the viscosity of the encapsulation mix. The molecular structure of cyclodextrins creates a bucket-like cavity that can function to complex with molecules or functional groups on molecules. The substitution of hydroxyl groups on native cyclodextrins to make hydroxypropyl-ß- or hydroxypropyl-γ-cyclodextrins (HPBCD or HBGCD) significantly enhances their solubility and makes them more suitable for drug solubilization. This mechanism makes the CAVASOL HPBCDs and HPGCDs capable of masking unpleasant taste/odor and stabilizing drugs that are prone to degradation, and also can increase solubility of poorly soluble compounds in oral drug delivery systems. Purification of the Cavitron cyclodextrins to remove endotoxins allows their use for solubilization of drugs for injectable drug products. Drewplus™ foam control agents

Drewplus™ foam control agents (FCA) provide a complete range of defoamers for architectural and industrial coatings as well as many other industrial applications. The Drewplus FCA product line includes technologies based on EBS wax, mineral oil, polysiloxane (silicone oils) and surfactant systems. They effectively control both process and application foam in latex paint systems and offer unique technologies including quick bubble break for knockdown and macrofoam and dissolution deaerators, which continue to perform even after the coating begins to set. Drewplus foam control agents are proven performers in vinyl acrylic, acrylic and polyvinyl acetate water-based paints. In addition, they are widely used in emulsion polymerization of synthetic lattices, providing superior antifoam during the polymerization process and during the stripping process.

Drew™ powder defoamers

Drew™ powder defoamers are polyols and fatty acid ester foam control agents for use in dry blend formulations which are dispersed in water before application. Drew powder defoamers are especially effective for use in building applications such as cement, fillers, gypsum, leveling compounds and mortars and can also be applied in powder paints or adhesives. Drew powder defoamers are typically effective at dosage levels between 0.1-1.0 percent by weight on total formulation. A flowable product, Drew powder defoamer can be easily mixed into dry blend formulations, which are then dispersed in water before application. The addition of Drew powder defoamers results in low foaming solutions or pastes with low entrained air content. In some dry system formulations, Drew powder defoamer reduces clumping.

EcoDura™ PLONOR liquid additives

EcoDura™ PLONOR liquid additives are a series of aqueous fluidized polymer suspensions (FPS) of hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC), designed for use in various oil-well servicing fluids, including drilling fluids, oil-well cement slurries, and completion/workover fluids. These additives are made exclusively from the PLONOR (Pose Little Or NO Risk) list of chemicals developed for use in environmentally sensitive locations, especially the North Sea, the Gulf of Mexico and other offshore operations. EcoDura PLONOR liquid additives are a high-solids (20 percent by weight), pourable and pumpable FPS of a variety of HEC grades designed to provide both good water retention and rheology control of oil-well servicing fluids. Depending upon the molecular weight of the suspended HEC, EcoDura PLONOR liquid additives are an effective fluid rheology modifier, fluid loss reducer, suspending agent and lubricant. Gantrez™ S polymers

PVM/MA Copolymer

Our Gantrez™ S polymer line of methyl vinyl ether and maleic acid copolymers are bioadhesives that function in wet environments. They serve as excellent film formers and mucosal adhesives. These polymers deliver and hold actives on mucus membranes. Available as a solution and powders, Gantrez S copolymers are the free acid of Gantrez AN polymers. These copolymers are water-soluble resulting in clear, tacky solutions whose rheology can be modified with the addition of salts and bases.

Gantrez™ copolymers

Gantrez™AN copolymers contain alternating units of methylvinylether and maleic anhydride. The fundamental character of this polymerization requires that a maleic anhydride unit must be adjacent to a methylvinylether unit and vice versa, resulting in a true alternating copolymer. Gantrez AN (anhydride form) is available in the molecular weight range of 130M-2500M. The polymers are white, hygroscopic powders soluble in tetrahydrofuran (THF) and M-Pyrol™ solvent; insoluble in aliphatic and halogenated hydrocarbons. All four grades have a glass transition temperature of 151-154°C, independent of molecular weight and form transparent, tack-free films. Stabileze™ QM polymers are produced in a manner similar to that of Gantrez AN but with the added monomer decadiene present to yield a crosslinked, water-swellable resin. The polymer is a white, free-flowing powder with a glass transition temperature of approximately 150°C. The solid can be dispersed in water without coagulating, and the anhydride function will hydrolyze directly or through the action of base. A neutralized 0.5 percent solution in water at pH 7 and 25°C has a viscosity range of 45,000-70,000 cP. Gantrez S95 and S97 have repeating co-maleic acid units produced by hydrolysis of Gantrez AN. The polycarboxylic acid derivatives with a pH of ~2 at 5 percent concentration are available either as viscous solutions or white powders. The vicinal dicarboxylic acid functionality of these materials is useful in a number of applications. The free acid forms are water-soluble, giving clear and tacky films. Solution rheology can be modified by the addition of salts and bases. Gantrez MS-955 is a mixed salt of sodium/calcium and is supplied as a free-flowing powder. The copolymer is soluble in water and produces solutions with high viscosity. Ethyl, isopropyl and n-butyl half esters are produced by opening up the anhydride in alcohol. These polymers, based on AN-119, are sold as 50 percent solutions in ethanol or isopropanol. They are water soluble when neutralized greater than 40 percent using either an organic or inorganic base. Adhesive strength can be adjusted through controlling the degree of neutralization. Films are flexible, clear and glossy and have improved water resistance compared to Gantrez S.

Gantrez™ polymers (A-425, ES-225, ES-335, ES-425, ES-435, SP-215) are a series of copolymers of monoalkyl esters of poly (methyl vinyl ether/maleic acid) with varying ester groups, supplied as clear, viscous solutions. The Gantrez polymers form tough, clear glossy films. Films exhibit tack-free adhesion, have excellent substantivity, and moisture resistance.   Film properties and solubility can be modified by the type and degree of neutralization, allowing formulation across product lines from regular hold to super hold and from a natural, soft feel to a firmer, harder holding finish. Gantrez polymers are soluble in alcohols, esters, ketones and glycol ethers and have good compatibility with aerosol propellants. They can also be used in both low and high VOC formulations.

Inhibex™ gas hydrate inhibitors

Low Dose Hydrate Inhibitors (LDHIs), technology developed in the 1990s, significantly improved the options available to offshore operators in preventing type I, II and H gas hydrates, the ice-like crystals that left untreated will damage or rupture pipelines, valves and well heads located under water. These LDHIs, based on Poly VCap polymers, require less than 1 percent (wt.%) to prevent gas hydrates from forming in fields with high water cut. Inhibex 301 gas hydrate inhibitors, one of the first commercially available low-dose kinetic hydrate inhibitors from Ashland, remains as an alternative to thermodynamic hydrate inhibitors (THI) in some cases, and a booster to THI methods in other scenarios. Today, however, offshore oil and gas operators work within a larger spectrum of temperature and pressure conditions. Ashland has responded to requests from oilfield chemical formulators for new polymeric gas hydrate inhibitors that address more challenging operational conditions offshore (and changing regulatory requirements). The chemistry of Inhibex gas hydrate inhibitors continues to expand in support of higher cloud points, higher sub-cooling conditions and regulatory schemes that require the use of biodegradable chemicals.

Isogrip™ structural adhesive

Isogrip adhesives are user-friendly adhesives that chemically react with the presence of moisture to form a thermosetting bond. Made up of one component, 100 percent solids, they contain no VOCs or formaldehyde and are non-flammable. In a typical application, Isogrip adhesive is coated onto a core material and misted with a controlled amount of water. The core is then covered by the skin substrates and a stack is made. The stack is then pressed for a specific period of time. During the press cycle, the moisture reacts with the adhesive to cure. When cured, these ICC-ES recognized adhesives offer excellent resistance to water, heat, chemicals and humidity. Isogrip adhesives provide costs savings in both labor and materials and are easy to handle, use, clean and dispose of and will work on most substrates.

Isoset™ structural adhesives

Isoset™ structural adhesives are two-component systems consisting of a base emulsion polymer and a crosslinking agent. Used in the fabrication of wood components such as structural finger joints, I-joists, laminated veneer lumber, vertical studs and glulam beams, Isoset adhesives are also used to bond sandwich panel components.  Suitable for bonding everything from various wood species, gypsum wallboard, hardboard, particleboard and plywood to core materials such as styrene and urethane foam, paper and aluminum honeycomb.

Jaypol™ acrylic-based dispersing agent

Jaypol™ dispersants are low-viscosity functional components that improve the quality and processability of waterborne coatings. They have been designed to accommodate a broad range of pigments and fillers in coatings, as well as the conditions imposed by coating type and are particularly well-suited to the dispersion of inorganic pigments.

Jaypol™ additives

Jaypol™ additives, based on acrylic chemistry, can help lower pour points or prevent scale build-up. These premium products are geared toward demanding field conditions.

Jaypol™ polymers

Jaypol™ polymers are acrylic-based polymers that are grouped into two categories: dispersants and rheology modifiers.  The Jaypol polymers series of dispersants are designed to enhance primary and secondary detergency and inhibit scale deposition. They work by: protecting carboxylated surfactants, bleach systems, whitening agents, etc., from inactivation by polyvalent ions; protecting fabrics from redeposition and encrustation with hardness salts, and protecting machine surfaces from scale deposition. The fundamental action of the Jaypol polymers series of dispersants selected for the Home Care category is to adsorb on surfaces involved in the washing/cleaning cycle. This may be the surface of crystals of insoluble salts, soil and lime soap particles, or fabrics being washed. These dispersants will also work on complex hardness and heavy metal ions, effectively removing them from solution and preventing interference with other actives. Products targeted at inhibiting the effects of hardness salts act by slowing growth of microscopic seed crystals. Crystals therefore do not become visible until a much higher concentration is reached – called the “threshold effect.” The adsorbed layer of inhibitor keeps the crystals dispersed and reduces scale deposition on surfaces. Products targeted at anti-soil redeposition adsorb on the fabric surface to repel emulsified oils and dirts, etc., by electrostatic and steric forces. The Jaypol polymers series of rheology modifiers are targeted for aqueous systems and form tangled networks of polymer chains that give structure to water, effectively inhibiting flow. Raising the viscosity with Jaypol polymers will help stabilize emulsions and dispersions, or improve product handling and application attributes. The Jaypol polymers series of rheology modifiers are supplied either as alkali swellable emulsions or their hydrophobically modified versions. They are activated on neutralization, when the coiled polymer expands to form the network of tangled chains. Other products maintain the coiled polymer dispersed in oil. On dilution and stirring, these liquid dispersion polymers are released to form the tangled chain network. When the complexity of the polymer network formed, its interaction with other ingredients in the solution and how the chains untangle under shear determine the rheological character imparted to the system by the products.

Lubrajel* hydrogels

Micropowder™ iron

There are two product families, the S grades and R grades. The S grades are standard iron grades with a purity level of approximately 97.5 percent. The impurity is comprised of carbon, oxygen and nitrogen and is the cause of the iron particle’s unique onionskin structure. R grades are high-purity iron grades with an average purity of 99.5 percent. Through a hydrogen reduction process most of the residual carbon and nitrogen have been removed from the iron particle producing a higher purity iron grade which is lower in durometer hardness and lacking the unique onionskin structure.

Micropure™ EG solvent

Micropure EG (electronic grade) solvent, a high purity grade of N-Methyl-2-Pyrrolidone (NMP), is used to prepare solutions of polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) for use as a cathode binder. Cathode slurries produced with Micropure EG solvent have ideal characteristics for coating on aluminum foil and for use in a solvent recovery systems. Produced in a world-class ISO-accredited plant, Micropure EG solvent meets the exacting standards for low color, and low moisture and metal content required by the lithium-ion battery market. N-DurHance™ A-1000 conditioning polymer provides conditioning properties in a variety of conditioning formulations including both leave on and rinse off conditioners and hair masks along with conditioning shampoos.

N-Hance™ 4572 conditioning polymer

The use of Ashland's synthetic cationic polymers helps formulators to improve deposition of oil soluble materials to the skin from a rinse-off formulation. The ability to reduce the load of these expensive actives up to 50% along with low use levels aid in the creation of cost effective formulas.  All are compatible wit a wide range of anionic, nonionci and cationic surfactants.

N-Hance™ SP-100 conditioning polymer

Acrylamidopropyl Trimonium Chloride/Acrylamide Copolymer

N-Hance SP-100 conditioning polymer is used as a substantive conditioning polymer in rinse-off surfactant systems, such as shampoos, to reduce tangling and improve the wet and dry comb properties of hair after shampooing. It is especially useful for delivering a highly conditioned feel to wet and dry hair. N-Hance SP-100 can also be added to bath and shower gels to improve skin feel after bathing or showering. N-Hance SP-100 conditioning polymer also functions as a deposition polymer in two-in-one shampoo and body wash systems by forming a coacervate with anionic surfactants, promoting the deposition of silicone, other emollients, or anti-microbial agents such as zinc or selenium onto hair and skin. Typical use levels are from 0.1 wt% to 0.25 wt%.

N-Hance™ cationic guar

Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride

N-Hance™ cationic guars are cationic polymers that provide the dual benefits of conditioning and thickening. The cationic charge makes the product substantive to anionic surfaces such as skin and hair. Many of the products in the N-Hance cationic guar product line have a high molecular weight, water-soluble backbone and are effective viscosifiers in aqueous solutions and surfactant-based systems.

NMP - N methyl 2 pyrrolidone (M-Pyrol™ solvent)

M-Pyrol solvent, a lower alkyl pyrrolidone, is an extremely powerful and versatile aprotic solvent. With its high boiling point, low vapor pressure and high stability, it is an effective solvent in numerous industry applications and can be used as a co-solvent with water, alcohols and other organic substances. M-Pyrol solvent is extremely resistant to hydrolysis from pH 2-10, even at elevated temperatures. Beyond these limits, hydrolysis to 4-(methylamino) butanoic acid occurs at a rate dependent on pH and temperature. A large body of chemistry has been developed on the reactions of strong nucleophiles with M-Pyrol solvent. High-purity, low amine and low trace-metal grades are sold under the Micropure™ tradename for the electronics industry and Pharmasolve™ trademane for the pharmaceutical industry.

Natrosol Performax™ hydroxyethylcellulose

Natrosol™ Performax hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) is a breakthrough paint-thickening technology. It comprises a range of hydroxyethylcellulose thickeners that delivers unprecedented process flexibility and quality control to paint manufacturers. The patented technology triggers rapid and complete dispersion in any water-based medium, even under low shear conditions. This allows manufacturers to add HEC in dry form at any point of the manufacturing process, eliminating extra process steps such as the preparation of pre-slurries or dissolutions of HEC, saving operational costs. The end result is a faster, more efficient, less costly production process. In addition, Natrosol Performax thickeners enhance paint quality and preserve critical performance characteristics, such as efficient thickening, stability, color compatibility and sag resistance. Ashland's Natrosol thickeners have been the leading HEC thickeners for waterborne architectural coatings for more than 50 years. Natrosol™ B hydroxyethylcellulose

Natrosol™ B hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC) delivers all the benefits of standard Natrosol HEC, but in addition, offers enzyme resistance (biostability). This best-in-class, bio-resistant HEC will maintain stability even in the presence of cellulose enzyme produced by microbial activity. Natrosol B HEC grades for paints and coatings applications are typically glyoxylated (R-treated) for ease of incorporation. In latex architectural paints, Natrosol B HEC is know for superior color performance, stability, shear-thinning, application properties and sag resistance.

Natrosol™ FPS fluidized polymer suspension

Natrosol™ FPS fluidized polymer suspensions are solvent-free liquid versions of Natrosol hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC). Virtually all viscosity grades of Natrosol commonly used in paint and coatings, including Regular, B-types and Natrosol Plus, are also available in a fluidized (FPS) version. HEC polymer is pre-dispersed in a stabilized aqueous media, creating an easy-to-handle, pourable, pumpable liquid cellulosic thickener. Natrosol FPS can be easily added to the grind, but is most advantageous when added directly to the let-down stage of paint making, where it readily disperses and incorporates quickly without lumping. FPS is also commonly used as a post-thickener to adjust the final viscosity of finished batches.

Natrosol™ Plus 330 and PolySurf™ 67 cetyl modified hydroxyethylcellulose

Cetyl Hydroxyethylcellulose (HMHEC)

Hydrophobically modified hydroxyethylcellulose (HMHEC) is made in a two-step reaction. The first is the standard reaction of alkali-cellulose with ethylene oxide to produce HEC. The second step is a cetyl substitution, which provides the hydrophobic end groups. The resultant nonionic polymer is purified and dried. HMHEC for personal care and cosmetic applications is sold as Natrosol Plus 330 CS and PolySurf™ 67 CS.  HMHEC polymers are unique in that they function as associative thickeners, meaning they not only thicken aqueous systems via chain entanglement and conventional hydrogen bonding, but also via hydrophobe interactions. In solution, hydrophobe groups seek out other hydrophobes, including oils and pigments, forming weak interactions and effectively creating a three-dimensional polymer network. The hydrophobic modification imparts many unique properties to HMHEC polymers including pseudoplastic shear thinning behavior, high salt tolerance and long-term stability over a very wide pH range (3.5-11). Furthermore, HMHEC also behaves as a polymeric co-emulsifier and can be used to stabilize O/W emulsions without the use of conventional high HLB, water-soluble surfactants, thus removing the major component leading to skin irritation and enabling a much milder formulation.

Natrosol™ Plus hydrophobically modified hydroxyethylcellulose

Natrosol™ Plus hydrophobically modified hydroxyethylcellulose (HMHEC) delivers all the benefits of Natrosol B HEC along with outstanding spatter resistance and improved high-shear viscosity. Natrosol Plus HMHEC is an associative thickener and thickens through multiple mechanisms. In addition to the hydrogen-bonding and chain entanglement, typical of standard HEC, Natrosol Plus is hydrophobically modified and readily forms weak, three-dimensional networks via hydrophobe association. This associative thickening mechanism provides the best spatter resistance in the industry but does not suffer from the formulation sensitivity typical of synthetic associative thickeners (SATs). Natrosol Plus modified HEC is a white, free-flowing powder that is readily incorporated into paints. It is also available as a pumpable liquid as Natrosol Plus 330 fluidized polymer suspension.

Natrosol™ hydroxyethylcellulose

Hydroxyethylcellulose

Natrosol™ hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC), a nonionic, water-soluble polymer, is a white, free-flowing granular powder. It is made by reacting ethylene oxide with alkali-cellulose under rigidly controlled conditions. Purified HEC for personal care and cosmetic applications is typically sold at 95.0 percent minimum purity (dry basis).  Solutions of Natrosol HEC are pseudoplastic or shear-thinning. As a result, personal care products formulated with Natrosol HEC dispense rich and thick from the container, but spread easily on hair and skin.  Natrosol HEC is easily dissolved in cold or hot water to give crystal-clear solutions of varying viscosities. Furthermore, low to medium molecular weight types are fully soluble in glycerol and have good solubility in hydro-alcoholic systems containing up to 60 percent ethanol. Natrosol HEC is generally insoluble in organic solvents. Natrosol HEC is used as a binder, bond strengthener, cement extender, coating and optical brightener aid, coating polymer, filtration control additive, green strength enhancer, protective colloid, rebound or slumping reducer, rheology controller and modifier, lubricity and workability enhancer, suspension and stabilization agent, shape retention enhancer and thickener. PVP

Polyvinylpyrrolidone is a hygroscopic, amorphous polymer supplied as a white, free-flowing powder or a clear aqueous solution. Available in several molecular weight grades, they are characterized by K-value, and used in a great variety of applications. Polyvinylpyrrolidone can be plasticized with water and most common organic plasticizers. It is considered to be physiologically inert:  Applications take advantage of one or more properties inherent in the polymer, typically due to the lactam ring. High polarity and the resultant propensity to form complexes with hydrogen donors, such as phenols and carboxylic acids, as well as anionic dyes and inorganic salts. Dispersancy, where components in a mixture are uniformly distributed through the use of polyvinylpyrrolidone. Hydrophilicity, where the substantial water solubility of polyvinylpyrrolidone is its dominant feature and frequently a factor along with other properties valuable to numerous applications. Adhesion, taking advantage of the higher molecular weight polyvinylpyrrolidones formulating in aqueous media, then evaporating sufficient water to generate a solid product for the desired application. Cohesivity, where cohesive strength is achieved through a variety of dry blending and granulation techniques. Polyvinylpyrrolidone is cross-linkable to a water insoluble, swellable material either in the course of vinylpyrrolidone polymerization, by addition of an appropriate multifunctional comonomer or by post-reaction, typically through hydrogen abstraction chemistry.

PVP/VA polymers

PVP/VA polymers produce transparent, flexible, oxygen permeable films which adhere to glass, plastics and metals.  Polyvinylpyrrolidone/vinyl acetate (PVP/VA) resins are linear, random copolymers produced by the free-radical polymerization of the monomers in ratios varying from 70/30 to 30/70 vinyl acetate to vinylpyrrolidone. PVP/VA copolymers are available as white powders or clear solutions in ethanol, isopropanol and water. Polymers in the four ranges of vinylpyrrolidone content (30, 50, 60 and 70 percent), are produced in ethanol or isopropanol. The PVP/VA copolymers with 60 and 70 percent vinylpyrrolidone content are available as solids or as 50 percent aqueous solutions.

Plasdone™ K-29/32 polymer

PVP

Plasdone™ K-29/32 polymer is a stable, water-soluble polyvinylpyrrolidone that meets U.S., European and Japanese pharmacopoeia specifications for Povidone. Plasdone K-29/32 polymer forms complexes with catechins, just as it does with many other compounds that cause discoloration of teeth. The polymer can be effectively used to bind and remove stains through hydrogen bonding with chemical compounds. 

Plasdone™ S-630 copovidone

Plasdone™ S-630 copovidone is a tablet binder, matrix polymer for solid-dispersion formulations and film former for topical applications. It is commonly used to enhance the solubility of active pharmaceutical ingredients and increase bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs through the formation of melt-extruded or spray-dried solid dispersions. Plasdone™ S-630 polymer

VP/VA copolymer

Plasdone™ S-630 polymer is 60:40 linear random copolymer of N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone and vinyl acetate. Soluble in water and in many organic solvents, Plasdone S-630 polymer is substantive, and acts as a film-former. It is also used as a tablet binder for denture cleaning tablets.

Plasdone™ povidone

Ashland offers a comprehensive range of Plasdone povidones (PVP). Plasdone povidones are a family of water-soluble polymers based on N-vinylpyrrolidone that combine a unique set of properties for application in a wide variety of dosage forms. Plasdone povidones are commonly used as binders for the development of tablet formulations, whether manufactured by wet granulation, dry granulation or direct compression. Plasdone K polymers are used in solid-dispersion formulations to enhance the solubility of active pharmaceutical ingredients and increase bioavailability. Plasdone C polymers can inhibit crystallization in liquid soft gels or injectable dosage forms, are low in pyrogens and are used in parenteral or ophthalmic applications. Polaris™ unsaturated polyester resin

Polaris™ unsaturated polyester resins provide fabricators with resin options that fit any cast polymer need. Polaris resins are designed for high filler loading, fast green strength development and quick de-mold times without cracking or warping. Polaris resins have excellent batch-to-batch consistency in color and liquid properties. For cultured marble and onyx fabricators, Polaris resins also have excellent thermal shock resistance and low color. Polyclar™ 10

Polyclar™ 10 single-use beer stabilizer is a highly effective, 100% polyvinyl polypyrrolidone (PVPP) beer stabilizer. It is optimized for single use on its own or in conjunction with other stabilizers, to offer a highly effective means of preventing non-biological haze in all types of beer. Non-biological haze formation results primarily from hydrogen bonding between haze-producing proteins and the polyphenol constituents of beer. To achieve colloidal stability, it is necessary to reduce these protein-pholyphenol complexes or prevent them from forming. Polyclar 10 beer stabilizer complexes with specific polyphenols in beer via hydrogen bonding and is then removed during filtration. The bonding occurs between the carbonyl groups of Polyclar 10 beer stabilizer and the hydroxyl groups of polyphenols.

Polyclar™ Brewbrite

Polyclar™ Brewbrite stabilizer from Ashland is a highly effective, proprietary wort clarifier and beer stabilizer. It is an optimized composite of purified food-grade carrageenan and specially modified polyvinyl polypyrrolidone (PVPP) making it the ideal upstream, single-addition product for stabilization protection against chill haze and permanent haze. Non-biological haze formation results primarily from the hydrogen bonding between haze-producing proteins and the polyphenol constituents of beer. Non-microbiological products (NMPs) act as templates on which these protein-polyphenol complexes may attach, thereby accelerating haze development in beer. Kappa-carrageenan, a hydrocolloid extracted from red seaweed, is very effective at reducing the size of NMPs in wort. These comprise protein, polyphenol, polysaccharide and other materials. Polyvinyl polypyrrolidone, or crosslinked PVP, is a synthetic polymer that specifically binds to haze-producing polyphenols. It complexes with specific polyphenols in beer via hydrogen bonding and is then removed during filtration. To achieve colloidal stability in beer, it is necessary to reduce these protein-polyphenol complexes, or prevent them from forming. Polyclar Brewbrite beer stabilizer does both as it reduces the size of NMPs in the wort and removes polyphenols.

Polyclar™ Granules

Polyclar™ Granules single-use, low-dust beer stabilizer is a highly efficacious, large-particle polyvinyl polypyrrolidone (PVPP) stabilizer for beer. It provides all the benefits of Polyclar 10 single-use beer stabilizer in a low-dust version. The granules are considerably larger than Polyclar 10 single-use beer stabilizer, very low-dusting and produce a cleaner slurry for addition to beverage tanks. Extremely easy to handle and disperse, Polyclar Granules single-use, low-dust beer stabilizer requires just a few minutes of contact time for selective hydrogen bonding to remove undesirable tannoids. This fast-wetting characteristic is due to its large surface area, which helps to accelerate the slurrying process and create efficient dispersion and hydration.

Polyclar™ Plus 730

Polyclar™ Plus 730 single-use, balanced beer stabilizer is a composite of Polyclar polyvinyl polypyrrolidone (PVPP) and a specially developed grade of silica xerogel. It benefits from the synergism between these two components by extending beer shelf life and filtration. A dual-action stabilizer, it offers highly effective reduction of both haze-forming polyphenols and haze-forming proteins. The use of silica xerogel is the most common method of reducing haze-forming proteins. The gel adsorbs the proline-rich, haze-forming protein onto its surface. Hydrogen bonding between the silanol groups on the surface of the silica and the carbonyl groups of the proline creates a strong complex, allowing the filter’s insoluble silica to easily remove the haze-forming proteins. The inclusion of PVPP in the admixture of Polyclar Plus 730 single-use, balanced beer stabilizer provides efficient and highly selective removal of haze-producing polyphenols, thus preventing the formation of insoluble protein-polyphenol complexes responsible for chill and permanent haze.

Polyclar™ Super R

Polyclar™ Super R regeneration-grade beer stabilizer is a very effective 100% polyvinyl polypyrrolidone (PVPP) stabilizer. It is optimized for regeneration use, either on its own or in conjunction with other stabilizers, offering a highly effective means of preventing non-biological haze in all types of beer.  Polyclar Super R regeneration-grade beer stabilizer has low swelling characteristics in aqueous conditions and high adsorption capacity for haze-forming polyphenols making them ideal for high-volume-throughput filter runs. In addition, Polyclar Super R regeneration-grade beer stabilizer achieves high efficacy of polyphenol removal through optimized morphology and particle size and its ability to withstand repeated regeneration cycles (high mechanical strength). Brewers can achieve a high degree of stability and clarity from optimized dosage of PVPP, and yet, at the same time, it can be regenerated and used for repeated cycles. Polyplasdone™ crospovidone

Polyplasdone™ crospovidone superdisintegrants are synthetic, insoluble, but rapidly swellable, crosslinked homopolymers of N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone. Crospovidone provides rapid disintegration and dissolution to oral solid dosage forms. Polyplasdone crospovidone particles are granular and porous compared with other superdisintegrants. PrimaFlo™ HP22 polymer solution is an aqueous solution of hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC) developed specifically for use as a film-former in personal care formulations. look for the NOT Rad-Sure is a blood irradiation indicator that provides positive visual verification of irradiation at the minimum specified dose. Rad-Sure is available in two types: Gamma and X-Ray. Use Soteras MSi binder for up to 30% better capacity retention, better performance at high charge rates and less swelling in silicon-based anodes. Soteras MSi binder is a unique water-based binder for high-capacity silicon-based anodes in lithium ion batteries. It controls swelling, resulting in superior cycle performance at capacities greater than 400 mAh/g when used with silicon oxide (SiOx), silicon composite (SiC) or silicon graphene (Si-Gr) technologies. Combined with these silicon technologies, the Soteras MSi binder helps lithium ion battery cell producers increase capacity by up to 30 percent.  Flexible and strong, Soteras MSi binder is compatible with current industry processing requirements. The Soteras MSi binder offers good electrochemical stability, enabling producers to design batteries with a wider voltage range than they can with conventional binders. The binder also has good slurry properties, which facilitate smooth coated surfaces on the collector and help prevent battery failure. The binder of choice for silicon-containing anodes. Soteras MSi binder has better capacity retention in all three types of silicon-based anodes.  In testing on a silicon oxide carbon anode at 420 mAh/g, for example, the Soteras MSi binder retained more than 90% percent of its charge after 100 cycles. By contrast, the CMC + SB binder retained less than 70%. The Soteras MSi binder also outperforms the conventional binder at high charge rates. And its superior adhesion contributes to longer cycle life.  The Soteras MSi binder is a two-component system, added at a 95:5 powder to liquid ratio. V-Cap™ vinyl caprolactam

V-Cap™ vinyl caprolactam is a pale yellow crystalline solid stabilized with 10 ppm N,N’-di-sec-butyl p-phenylenediamine. Polymers synthesized from V-Cap vinyl caprolactam are significantly more hydrophobic than their V-Pyrol vinyl pyrrolidone analogs but still exhibit the adhesiveness, strength and complexing capability characteristic of the lactam functionality.  V-Cap vinyl caprolactam is a supercooled liquid and can remain as a liquid at room temperature for extended periods. Rapid, exothermic crystallization under these conditions should not be confused with bulk polymerization. V-Cap RC vinyl caprolactam accelerates UV curing rates as the reactive diluent. Typically formulated with an acrylate oligomer, it imparts unique solution viscosity reduction and enhanced adhesion to non-polar substrates. The activated double bond of V-Cap vinyl caprolactam facilitates its use in free radical homo- and copolymerizations and grafting reactions. The products of these reactions are either linear or crosslinked homopolymers and nonionic, anionic and cationic copolymers.  Polymers from V-Cap vinyl caprolactam are amorphous, and the caprolactam ring imparts hydrophobicity, adhesiveness, strength and complexing capability.

V-Pyrol™/RC reactive monomer

V-Pyrol™/RC reactive monomer is a clear liquid stabilized with insoluble sodium hydroxide or soluble N,N’-di-sec-butyl-p-phenylenediamine. The latter inhibitor is supplied in V-Pyrol/RC reactive monomer and V-Pyrol/Amine at concentrations of 25ppm and at 100 ppm, respectively for radiation curing and nonradiation curing applications. V-Pyrol/RC reactive monomer is commonly used in radiation cured forumulations.  This monomer is known to be a supercooled liquid well below its freezing point of 13°C. Zenix™ phosphate ester surfactant is a free-acid form of an ethoxylated alcohol phosphate ester. It is designed to be used as a co-surfactant in conditioning shampoos for bleached or virgin hair. In combination with cationic guar, this phosphate ester improves wet and dry detangling properties and reduces friction, imparting a smooth and silky feel to dry hair. Zenix phosphate ester surfactant allows flexibility to product a clear shampoo when it is used in combination with conditioning polymers such as N-Hance™ CCG 45 cationic guar.
