Additive manufacturing of dosage forms is an exciting new application in pharmaceutical research. Klucel™ hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC) is ideally suited for 3D printing applications by fused deposition modeling, a type of melt extrusion. 3D printing enables individualized medicine, an important new trend that is expected to increase patient safety and compliance. In addition to Klucel HPC, Plasdone™ S-630 copovidone and certain grades of Plasdone™ povidone and ethylcellulose also find use in 3D printing.
