driving safer solutions to reduce range anxiety

The increased market for electric and hybrid vehicles creates an ever-growing need for safer and longer-lasting batteries. As a leading supplier of a wide range of specialty ingredients, Ashland provides binders to the lithium ion battery (LiB) industry.

The Soteras™ CCS range of binders allows effective ceramic coating of both PE and PP separators to reduce film shrinkage during thermal stress at temperatures in excess of 170°C.

Soteras™ MSi is an innovative water-based anode binder based on breakthrough technology specifi-cally for use with silicon to increase the capacity of lithium ion batteries by as much as 30 percent. Soteras MSi controls swelling, resulting in superior cycle performance at capacities greater than 400 mAh/g when used with silicon oxide (SiOx), silicon composite (SiC), silicon oxide composite (SiOxC), or silicon graphene (Si-Gr) technologies.

“Lithium-ion batteries have become the chosen technology for energy storage for electric vehicles. There is an increasing requirement for higher capaci-ties and improved safety and performance,” said Dr. Robert Gibbison, global segment leader, Perfor-mance Specialties, Ashland. “Soteras™ binders can help cell developers and separator producers achieve these goals.”

Please visit Ashland at booth C-306 during Battery Japan to learn how the range of Soteras™ binders can improve your cell performance.
