Tetrahydrofuran (THF) solvent is an inert, versatile solvent offering high solvency power for numerous organic substances. It is used as a starting reagent in many syntheses.

THF (stabilized with 200-300 ppm BHT) is an excellent polymer solvent, combining rapid dissolution and evaporation with significant solubilizing

capacity for many high molecular weight polymers at moderate viscosity. It has unique characteristics in Grignard and other organometallic reactions. THF undergoes an acid-catalyzed, ring-opening polymerization reaction to produce Polytetramethylene-ether glycol. THF is sold under the THF Pharma™ solvent tradename for pharmaceutical applications.
