Plasdone™ povidone
Ashland offers manufacturers of solid dosage forms a comprehensive range of Plasdone polymers as binders for the development of tablet formulations whether manufactured by wet granulation, dry granulation or direct compression. Plasdone K polymers are commonly used in solid-dispersion formulations to enhance the solubility of active pharmaceutical ingredients and increase bioavailability. These polymers are suitable for most pharmaceutical applications. Plasdone C polymers
inhibit crystallization in injectable dosage forms, are pyrogen free and are recommended for use in parenteral or opthalmic applications.
The regulatory compliance information for all Ashland products varies by product family and grade. For specific data about the grade you are interested in please refer to our Excipient Information Package and the Certificate of Analysis (COA).

Plasdone povidones are among the most commonly used solid dispersion carries to solubilize poorly soluble drugs. Povidones can stabilize amorphous drugs in polymer dispersions and maintain supersaturation of active pharmaceutical ingredients in aqueous solutions by preventing precipitation/crystallization.
• Low Tg for ease of processing in hot-melt extrusion (low MW grades such as K-12 and K-17)
• Solubility in wider range of solvents adds processing flexibility in spray drying
• Compatible with other ingredients to allow optimization of solid dispersion formulations for stability and delivery
• Physiologically inert for good safety profile
• Inhibits crystallization
Plasdone polymers are a family of water soluble polymers based on N-vinylpyrrolidone that combine a unique set of properties for application in a wide variety of dosage forms, including oral solid, liquid and topical formulations.
• High bonding capabilities in granulations
• Non-ionic to minimize API interactions
• Physiologically inert for good safety profile
• Solubility in aqueous and polar solvents adds processing flexibility
