Our chemistries help whiten your teeth, protect you from the sun and make your medicine work more effectively. They protect the environment through recycled, re-refined motor oils. Our ingredients are at work in architecture, vehicles, construction, food and beverages, personal care items and tissue and towel products.

specialty Ingredients

• Ashland is the No. 1 global producer of cellulose ethers. Ashland’s cellulose derivatives (Natrosol™ hydroxyethylcellulose, Culminal™ methylcellulose, Blanose™ carboxymethylcellulose, Aqualon™ ethylcellulose) are water-soluble polymers made from cellulose, which is the primary cell wall of green plants and the most abundant naturally occurring polymer on Earth. Ninety percent of cotton and fifty percent of wood is cellulose.

Natrosol™ HEC derivatives enhances paint quality and preserves critical performance characteristics, such as efficient thickening, stability, color compatibility and sag-resistance. Natrosol hydroxyethylcellulose excels on the sustainability front. The cellulose ether chemistry is derived from natural materials. In addition HEC is typically sold as a highly efficient dry powder, which means no alkylphenol ethoxylates and no added solvents.

Culminal™ methylcellulose derivatives are nonionic cellulose ethers used in a variety of industrial applications as adhesives, binders, extrusion aids, plasticizers, protective colloids, rheology modifiers, stabilization agents, thickeners and water-retention agents.

Blanose™ sodium carboxymethylcellulose has found use in an ever-increasing number of applications. The many important functions provided by this polymer make it a preferred thickener, suspending aid, stabilizer, binder and film-former in a growing variety of applications.
