DREWRAD® Radiation-Curable Resins

Providing Extreme Versatility in Design

DREWRAD resin is a unique, patented "self-initiating" family of acrylic oligomers designed to deliver a new approach to the needs of the radiation-cure industry. This proprietary technology allows for custom resins to meet unique requirements and needs. A myriad of co-oligomers is possible: epoxy, urethane, polyester, polyether, amine and combinations are available.

Using a wide variety of building blocks in the synthesis process, DREWRAD resins can be created with an endless range of structural and functional features. Whether the need is for a soft, flexible material with good adhesion and high elongation for packing; a hard, rigid material for durable surface protection; or a material that cures at higher line speeds for productivity improvement and cost reduction, DREWRAD resins afford the ideal technology.

Opening Up a New World of Applications

DREWRAD resins eliminate many of the technical barriers that have traditionally limited broader use of UV curing. DREWRAD technology provides excellent cure response and efficiency of cure, even for thick films. Our self-initiating resins are mid-molecular weight oligomers. Coatings and inks based on DREWRAD resins are less reliant on photoinitiators, thereby reducing or eliminating odor and discoloration problems and enhancing overall product performance. DREWRAD resins also require less diluent monomer because they can be produced at ready-to-use viscosities. Desired properties can be built into finished coatings and inks, producing a more predictable, higher quality product. Collectively these advantages enable the use of UV-curing technology in a host of previously excluded, unexplored and undeveloped applications, and on a broader range of substrates, where productivity, durability and product performance are critical.

Incorporating Photoinitiators is now an Option

Because DREWRAD resins are photoactive, photoinitiators are optional. Clear systems can be produced without adding photoinitiator, and pigmented resins require dramatically less photoinitiator using DREWRAD resin technology. As a result, our unique UV-curing technology enables you to increase line speeds, eliminate photoinitiator and diluent monomer odor, reduce total use cost and enhance your productivity and environmental performance and no special storage or handling is required for DREWRAD resins.

Creating Energy-Curable Pigmented Systems Just Got Easier

Energy-curable pigmented systems with low viscosities, high pigment loading, and improved flow and leveling are now possible. Several DREWRAD resins have been designed to offer unparalleled pigment and filler affinity. In addition, these resins yield low viscosity dispersions with minimal or no monomer that can add odor or detract from finished properties. These dispersions can be used with any energy-curable technology to enhance performance in all types of inks and coatings.
Developing lower and uniform matte finishes using DREWRAD resin technology, we have been able to design a liquid matting/flatting vehicle that uniformly reduces gloss across the sheet/film. The product is easy to disperse and is cost effective versus conventional materials. No other resin technology on the market offers the performance and flexibility of design of this innovative polymerization process.
