Protecsol™ FBX corrosion inhibitors and deposit dispersants
Ashland’s innovative Protecsol FBX corrosion and deposit dispersants are specifically designed for food, beverage and dairy applications and can be used to treat most heat-treatment systems, including batch and continuous sterilizers and tunnel pasteurizers.
Protecsol FBX products not only protect product packaging from corrosion during and after heat treatment but also help to minimize unsightly deposits caused by contaminants and scale. Additionally, Protecsol FBX products protect food processing equipment from the continuous corrosive attack by steam and water and from deposits.
Notably, Protecsol FBX products are registered with NSF International and are acceptable for treatment of cooling and retort water in and around food processing areas (G5).
Heat treatments such as pasteurization and sterilization are essential to producing quality food and beverage products, but they create an ideal environment for corrosion and deposition. This can negatively impact not only the the appearance of product packaging but also the life and efficiency of processing equipment.
Because consumers often base their final purchasing decision on the appearance of a product, corrosion and spotting of packaging, such as cans and bottle caps, can lead to a loss in sales and reduced profitability. Corrosion and deposition can also reduce profitability since processing equipment components must be replaced more frequently and downtime must be scheduled for maintenance.

Customer Analytical Services
Ashland Water Technologies’ Customer Analytical Services team is dedicated to helping customers address the multitude of contaminants that can negatively impact the efficiency and reliability of their water-based systems. The team is made up of an experienced staff of analytical chemists, microbiologists and technicians and is supported by sophisticated testing equipment that provides rapid analysis and identification of contaminants beyond what may be accomplished with field-based methods. Key services provided by the team include fluid analysis, deposit analysis, microbiological analysis and metallurgical analysis.
Water Process Applications
Ashland Water Technologies’ Water Process Applications team is dedicated to helping customers improve the performance of their boiler, heating and cooling systems, and associated processes. The team supports customers worldwide from four technical centers that house extensive analytical capabilities and innovative process testing instrumentation. Using both laboratory bench and pilot scale equipment, the team can evaluate chemical and mechanical treatments and explore “what-if” scenarios under actual-use conditions. The hard data and insights gained during these evaluations allow Ashland to confidently recommend treatment strategies that ensure system efficiency.
