Oilbreak™ demulsifiers and flotation aids
Treating wastewaters containing oils, fats and solids is a difficult challenge. Such wastewaters are produced in large quantities by petrochemical, oil refining, metal processing and food processing plants. The undesirable oils contained in these waters are present either as emulsions or as very fine droplets that must be separated from the water prior to discharge. Oily and fatty impurities in wastewaters typically exist as micro-droplets that can be easily skimmed or separated mechanically. However, emulsified oils and fats must first be converted into a free form, by means of a suitable demulsifier, so that they can then be separated from the aqueous phase.
Oilbreak demulsifiers and flotation aids comprise a family of specially formulated organic products that effectively demulsify oils, fats and solids in industrial and municipal wastewaters. These novel products, which include cationic polymers and polymer blends, facilitate the purification of organically contaminated wastewaters without the addition of metal salts. In addition to having an outstanding emulsion breaking effect, Oilbreak products allow fine oil particles to be coagulated and then quickly floated to the water’s surface.
