LeakTrac recovery boiler leak indication system
Early detection of leaks in recovery boilers remains an important priority for pulp and paper manufacturers due to the potentially devastating effects of a smelt-water explosion that can result from a leak. Developed to help protect a mill’s valuable boiler assets, the LeakTrac recovery boiler leak indication system uses sophisticated statistical concepts around the waterside of the boiler to identify leaks with a high degree of confidence. As a reliable leak indication tool, the LeakTrac system can also provide cost savings when used to help verify that no leak is present in the boiler and to avoid an unnecessary emergency shutdown.
To provide reliable and sensitive leak indication under a wide range of conditions, the LeakTrac system uses water mass balance technology and chemical mass balance technology—either separately or in combination. It also uses patented mathematical methods that utilize operating data along with chemical feed data to develop a leak index, which is valuable in interpreting a system alarm. Speed of detection, sensitivity, false alarm minimization and system availability are optimized, all of which are critical when a boiler leak occurs or is suspected. The patented chemical feed and control system used for the chemical mass balance portion of the LeakTrac system provides maximum sensitivity while providing excellent boiler chemistry control.

Customer Analytical Services
Ashland Water Technologies’ Customer Analytical Services team is dedicated to helping customers address the multitude of contaminants that can negatively impact the efficiency and reliability of their water-based systems. The team is made up of an experienced staff of analytical chemists, microbiologists and technicians and is supported by sophisticated testing equipment that provides rapid analysis and identification of contaminants beyond what may be accomplished with field-based methods. Key services provided by the team include fluid analysis, deposit analysis, microbiological analysis and metallurgical analysis.
Corrosion Monitoring and Metallurgy
Problems related to corrosion cost commercial and industrial plants billions of dollars each year. Although a variety of means exist to inhibit corrosion, it's important to identify the root cause of the corrosion. Ashland Water Technologies’ Corrosion Monitoring and Metallurgy group provides failure analysis and assessments of steam-generating and heat-exchanger equipment. Working closely with customers, this team provides clear identification of the problem, which leads to a more rapid and effective solution. Key services provided by the group include failure analysis, corrosion coupon analysis, and elemental and compound analysis.
