Generox™ chlorine dioxide generation systems
Chlorine dioxide has been used for many years as an oxidizing biocide and disinfectant and has proven to effectively control a broad spectrum of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms, including those that produce endospores and biofilm, and the bacteria that cause Legionnaires' disease and listeriosis. Due to its fast action and selective oxidizing properties, chlorine dioxide is able to significantly reduce microbial activity quickly and effectively at a lower feed rate than traditional oxidizing biocides. As microbiological control is achieved using less chlorine dioxide, corrosion rates are reduced.
Ashland has decades of experience using chlorine dioxide in both process and water applications, including cooling towers, once-through systems, potable water, process water and wastewater. Two patented systems for producing chlorine dioxide at the customer’s site are offered: the Generox CSR (concentrated submersible reactor) system and the Generox tube reactor system. While each system is unique, both systems provide customers with a safer and more efficient way to produce chlorine dioxide onsite.

Customer Analytical Services
Ashland Water Technologies’ Customer Analytical Services team is dedicated to helping customers address the multitude of contaminants that can negatively impact the efficiency and reliability of their water-based systems. The team is made up of an experienced staff of analytical chemists, microbiologists and technicians and is supported by sophisticated testing equipment that provides rapid analysis and identification of contaminants beyond what may be accomplished with field-based methods. Key services provided by the team include fluid analysis, deposit analysis, microbiological analysis and metallurgical analysis.
Water Process Applications
Ashland Water Technologies’ Water Process Applications team is dedicated to helping customers improve the performance of their boiler, heating and cooling systems, and associated processes. The team supports customers worldwide from four technical centers that house extensive analytical capabilities and innovative process testing instrumentation. Using both laboratory bench and pilot scale equipment, the team can evaluate chemical and mechanical treatments and explore “what-if” scenarios under actual-use conditions. The hard data and insights gained during these evaluations allow Ashland to confidently recommend treatment strategies that ensure system efficiency.

System Advantages
Ashland offers two chlorine dioxide generation systems for controlling microbial activity: the Generox CSR system and the Generox tube reactor system. Both systems allow customers to economically produce up to 100 kg of chlorine dioxide per hour at different concentrations and using a variety of acids. Because both systems are submersible and produce chlorine dioxide underwater, the risk of gas leaks and explosions is virtually eliminated.
The unique design of the reactor used in both Generox systems provides significant performance advantages over competitive technologies. In fact, the reactor design allows for consistent precursor conversion of more than 99 percent, which can lead to reduced chemical consumption (15- to 20-percent reduction compared to conventional systems) and improved cost efficiencies. Additionally, unlike most competitive systems, the Generox systems can use sulfuric acid as an alternative precursor, which can further improve cost efficiencies by reducing chemical costs and eliminating the need for additional storage and dosing equipment.
