The time we give is as important as the dollars

Our employees have degrees ranging from engineering and chemistry to marketing and accounting. They’re skilled professionals in research and development, transportation and warehousing, office support, environmental cleanup, vehicle technology and much more. So perhaps it’s no surprise that supporting education is a role that Ashland has taken seriously since our inception.

Each year, approximately one-third of our corporate citizenship contributions target education-related activities. While we believe that giving generously in donations is important, we also believe in giving generously of our time as well. With a diverse employee base representing a broad range of careers and backgrounds, we can make a significant difference in the communities in which we work and live.

Among the educational and projects, programs and partnerships we support are:

The Kentucky Teacher Achievement Awards Program
Started by Ashland in 1988, we expanded our program by partnering with the Kentucky Department of Education to combine the best elements of our existing Teacher Achievement Awards and the state’s Teacher of the Year program. This combination has resulted in Ashland awarding approximately $657,500 to nearly 450 teachers in kindergarten through high school classrooms.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of America
This partnership with the world’s oldest and largest mentoring program helps at-risk children reach their full potential. We encourage employee participation on local boards, recruit employee volunteers, participate in fundraisers and make financial contributions locally and nationally. Our employees also serve as school mentors and as “bigs” to the “littles” in our communities, enabling young people to gain a better sense of self and a more positive view of the future.

Initiatives around the globe
Our employees make a difference all over the world. Since 2003, our gelcoat plant in Miszewo, Poland, has worked with schoolchildren on environmental education. The students collect plastic bottles throughout the school year and we redeem the bottles for trees that are planted throughout the community. In Benicarló, Spain, our employees work with schoolchildren at an annual beach-cleaning project and sponsor a football-based school for more than 150 children, ages 5 to 12.
