Texas employees reach out to help fire victims
Ashland employees helped the needy after hot temperatures, strong winds and a historic drought combined to create one of the costliest wildfires in Texas state history. In September 2011, fires charred 41,020 acres and at least 1,698 homes were destroyed in the Bastrop, Texas, area, resulting in an estimated $150 million in insured losses.
In the spirit of giving and community service, employees at our plant in nearby Kenedy, Texas, donated money or essentials to the thousands of people whose lives were tragically affected. A local radio station was also contacted to announce our site as a community drop-off location for supplies.
Our employees donated essentials such as cleaning supplies, toiletries and sundries, as well as approximately $200 which was used to purchase additional supplies for the fire victims. This tragedy deeply impacted Kenedy employees, and a team member's son lost his home to the fire.
A team of Kenedy employees organized the collection and coordinated the delivery, which included 50 T-shirts donated by the plant.
