Going green on campus

Collegians learn about environmental benefits of NextGen motor oil

Students at Georgia College and State University heard the story of Valvoline™ NextGen™ motor oil as part of the school's Shades of Green Week.

Jessie Simon, manager of our blending facility near Atlanta, and Bryon Obonna, quality manager,  brought the story of recycled motor oil to the campus in Milledgeville, where the College of Business was hosting a week-long "green" career and issues forum.

"We're connecting our students to industry professionals and bringing awareness about new eco-friendly techniques that companies are incorporating into our ever-growing green economy," said Dr. Doreen Sams, associate professor or marketing.

Simon and Obonna were glad to be asked to participate. Using pamphlets, brochures and educational videos, they met with students on campus, educating them on the benefits of NextGen.

"Overall, we were able to go one-on-one with a couple hundred current and future NextGen consumers, and the response was really quite enthusiastic," said Simon. "This was a great opportunity for us to reach out into the community and share Ashland's commitment to Responsible Care."

"Young people are becoming more and more interested in everything green," said Gerri McCord, career advisor for the College of Business. "We're finding the students will support companies and services that bring those ideas to market."
