Ashland‘s management models focusing on excellence in Environmental, Health & Safety and a zero-incident culture were presented at a conference organized by the Benicarló, Spain, City Council, the Chemists Association of the Valencian Community and the Regional Association of Employers of the Spanish Baix Maestrat area. “It is great to see that Ashland, as a specialty chemical company, is so highly esteemed in the region,” said Victor Agraz, plant manager at our Benicarló site. “We are seen not only as a stable and reliable partner in the region, but also as an innovator dedicated to social responsibility.” Representatives of local and regional industry associations stressed the relevance of the chemical industry for the region, especially in economically challenging times. “In the global market place, a focus on social responsibility toward the communities we operate in and toward our employees is just as important to succeed as sound business structures and innovative products,” said Agraz. “That is why Ashland is dedicated to safety through the implementation of the Responsible Care* program.” We also discussed our collaborative activities in the different areas of the local community. “Participants cherished the fact that we have a structure in place through which we collaborate with the environmental protection of our beaches, cultural activities and the promotion of values among the young people in our community,” said Argaz. |

Plant observes safety milestone
The Benicarló plant demonstrated its commitment to safety when it passed 1,000 days without an accident. To celebrate the occasion, special shirts were printed that read: “2012: Año sin accidents” (2012: Year without accidents) and a celebration was organized.
“We are proud of having achieved this goal,” said Argaz. “Safety is very important to us, and we are very happy to be one step further down the road to a zero-incident culture.”
