What are Ashland's Diversity goals?
Build a more diverse workforce.
Promote the benefits of diversity across the company, by helping employees (1) know and understand how Ashland defines diversity; (2) respect diversity among their coworkers; and (3) know that diversity is good for Ashland's business.
How does Ashland define Diversity?
Diversity is about having employees with different perspective working together to find the best solutions for our customers. Our perspectives and approaches to problem solving are often formed by our individual life experiences, which are influenced by factors such as our race, gender, education, familial status, work experiences, and cultural background.
Why is Diversity important to Ashland?
Ashland is a global company. Diversity helps promote the exchange of ideas in the workplace. Having employees with many differences gives Ashland a unique perspective and problem-solving skills that help us compete better in the global marketplace. Research clearly shows that companies with diverse workforces outperform those that are not diverse.
What is the difference between diversity and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Affirmative Action efforts?
Equal Employment Opportunity refers to compliance with a group of federal laws that prohibit discrimination in employment practices based on national origin, race, color, religion, gender, disability, and age. These laws were enacted in recognition that in the past, discrimination in employment practices had occurred in these areas.
Affirmative Action is a federal mandate that requires employers to review their employment practices, to ensure that they do not contain barriers that prevent the advancement of women, minorities, veterans or individuals with disabilities, within their workplaces.
The diversity initiative supports both EEO and AAP, but takes it one step further. Diversity recognizes and finds value in the differences that individuals bring to the workplace. It ensures our work environment supports and allows all employees to reach their full potential. This will help us attract, retain, develop, and support a workforce that is well prepared to meet the challenges of the global marketplace of the future.
