Larry Anker has been selected as a fellow of the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI) for 2013. He is the group leader of North American Pulp and Paper Applications for Ashland Water Technologies. Anker was honored on April 30 during the PaperCon 2013 convention in Atlanta.
The distinctive honor goes to only about 1 percent of the members of TAPPI, an organization whose primary purpose is to promote the development and exchange of technical information globally between individuals in the pulp, paper, packaging and converting industries. Recognition as a fellow is based on outstanding contributions and meritorious service to the association and/or the paper industry as a whole. The TAPPI board of directors elects fellows annually.
Anker is an active TAPPI member. He has served as chair of the Paper and Board Division as well as chair of the TAPPI Additives Committee. He also serves as an instructor for TAPPI’s Introduction to Wet End Chemistry course.
During his time at Ashland, Anker has made significant contributions, leading the applications team and successfully launching a new business model that has delivered outstanding results over the past three years.
"This outstanding recognition from TAPPI recognizes Larry's passion for teaching others his depth of knowledge in papermaking chemistry," said Eric Popham, North America director, Pulp and Paper, Ashland Water Technologies. "His volunteer work teaching TAPPI short courses mirrors his commitment to making Ashland a technology leader in the global paper industry."
