What looks like fancy marble or granite countertops may well be engineered stone, made with our composite resins.
The advantage is that engineered stone doesn’t have the sensitivities to moisture and wear and tear that plague natural materials. Even what appears to be a perfectly smooth piece of natural stone has microscopic imperfections that can collect moisture, leading to stains and maybe even bigger cracks.
Ashland’s technical center in Porvoo, Finland, is a leader in developing and testing resin properties. Our pilot machine is used to produce various formulations of resin, quartz, sand and other materials for testing.
